Jacob Gils

Biography

Jacob Gils is a contemporary Danish photographer, born in an artist’s family and graduated from the Copenhagen School of Photography in 1989, where he has assisted Leif Schiller.

Often described as painters´ photographer, Gils captures impressionist like strokes of movement with his camera, finding balance between a “curious research mode” and a “focused execution mode”. By overlaying multiple exposures, Gils captures the minuscule movements of trees in landscapes, other times focusing his camera on modes of transportation or architectural icons.

So Jacob Gils: “Movement is a series which combines a strong aesthetic point of view with meticulous attention to technical detail. As the title indicates, the series is concerned with giving shape to temporal and spatial aspects inherent in all visual experience.”
